this is one of the biggest reasons why we do not use planner so mutch.and that there is a lack of a way to plan over several projects in a single overview @cathyharley this has been a regular capability requested for excel charts for years (decades now) but the microsoft response has consistently been to use project. now with o365, the response is the same for planner? it is literally called “planner.” why is there so much pushback considering how simple a gantt chart would be to implement? we have a title, a start and stop date…what more is needed? most users requesting this capability do not need the in-depth features of project, and are in all likelihood not going to purchase and learn project just for the sake of having a gantt chart feature. they will do what i have which is to hack my way into a gantt in excel, then copy/paste it into powerpoint until a less complex capability is built into the “planning” software we already pay a licensing fee for in the first place.
microsoft project was too expensive and difficult to use properly without training, project online was providing a cloud alternative but still provided the same challenges and lists in sharepoint had stagnated. similar to planner, lists in sharepoint was introduced a lot earlier than people realise. while planner is certainly not dead, it’s repeating the mistake of lists before it and failed to innovate. i went with planner because of the native integration of planner tasks to to do and the tasks app in teams.
might be doing it wrong, but i wasn’t able to add the gantt view to a team site using the list app – i had to add a tab using the sharepoint app – is there another way to do this with the lists app? a lists personal teams app is missing – not that it couldn’t be created, but that is a barrier to adoption, it not being native. with regards to doing a plan in lists – do you have the boards view in your tenant yet? i feature that is very popular in my organisation in planner is the ability to do a quick checklist within a card.
